The US Supreme Court is expected to announce their decision on the US President Barack Obama's healthcare law on June 28. The ruling could affect millions of its residents and determine whether the state receives billions in new federal revenue.
The full impact, of course, depends on how the justices rule, since they could throw out the law entirely, declare it all constitutional, or reject portions of it, such as mandated insurance for most Americans. It is the lifesaving choice for thousands of patients with end-stage kidney renal failure who do not want to have kidney dialysis. Kidney transplants are performed with general anesthesia where the surgical team monitors your heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen level throughout the whole procedure. In this process, a healthy kidney of a donor is placed inside patients body whose kidney is no more functional. The surgeon makes an incision and places the kidney in lower abdomen after that blood vessels of the new kidney are attached to blood vessels in lower part of your abdomen and new kidneys ureter is connected to your bladder.

After the Procedure

The transplanted kidney functions in a similar way as original healthy kidney of the recipient were working before. Successful renal transplantation gives a complete rehabilitation. A donor can be any close family member or cadaveric. You are expected to do the following things after the procedure.
  • Stay for several days to weeks in a hospital
  • Have frequent checkups
  • Take medications for the rest of the life
After renal transplantation, immunosuppression therapy is given for a long period to prevent graft rejection with cyclosporin, corticosteroids, and azathioprine.

Associated or Late Complications

  • Blood clots
  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Leakage from or blockage of the tube that links to bladder
  • Stenosis of arterial anastomosis
  • Increased risk of infections due to therapy
  • Weight gain
  • Hypertension due to immunosuppresant drugs
  • Rash due to immunosuppresant drugs
  • Tremor due to immunosuppresant drugs
  • Recurrence of disease that caused renal failure
  • Nephrotoxicity
About 80 % grafts survive for almost 6-10 years while 60 % survival rate is 20-30 years.

How Kidney Works?

Kidneys are the two bean-shaped organs on both sides of the spine immediately below the rib cage. The kidney filters the waste, fluid, minerals from blood and removes if from the body through urine. It helps to maintain your body fluid and electrolyte balance. But what will happen if your kidney stops working ??? It will lose the filtering ability, and all the waste minerals will be accumulated in the body that will ultimately raise the blood pressure and result in kidney failure. At this stage, kidneys have lost about 90 % of their functioning capacity.

Common Causes Of End-Stage Renal Disease

  • Diabetes
  • Polycystic kidney disease
  • Chronic glomerulonephritis

Types Of Kidney Transplant

There are three types of kidney transplant procedures.
  • Living-donor kidney transplant
  • Deceased-donor kidney transplant
  • Pre-emptive kidney transplant

Best Time To Have a Kidney Transplant

It is often the treatment choice for kidney failure when there is no any second option other than an organ transplant. If you will undergo this procedure, you can easily treat chronic nephron disease with GFR < OR = TO 20 ml/min. It will cost you less than daily dialysis, there will be few dietary restrictions, and better quality of life after this. You can easily have a kidney transplant if you
  • Haven’t crossed advanced age
  • No severe heart disease
