In the last few years, Pneumonia has reported thousands of deaths in the whole world. Even in Luxembourg, hundreds of cases of Pneumonia are reported every year. In general, Pneumonia is an infection to one or both lungs. Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. In adults, bacterial pneumonia is the most common type. Once the lungs are infected, Pneumonia causes inflammation in the air sacs inside your lungs. These air sacs are known as alveoli. These inflamed alveoli cause difficulty in breathing which may cause death.

By general and germ, there are three types of Pneumonia i.e. Bacterial Pneumonia, Viral Pneumonia, Mycoplasma Pneumonia, and Fungal Pneumonia. Bacterial Pneumonia is the most common type of Pneumonia that is generally caused due to Streptococcus Pneumonia. Whereas the viral pneumonia is caused due to respiratory viruses. This type of Pneumonia is usually not serious and lasts for a shorter time. There is another type of Fungal Pneumonia that is called Pneumocystis Jirovecii Pneumonia.

Symptoms of Pneumonia

Symptoms of pneumonia can be wild or even life-threatening. Symptoms usually vary according to the cause and severity of the infection, age, and general health of the patient. Also, the symptoms depend upon the type of Pneumonia. In general, the disease shows:

  • Coughing that may produce phlegm
  • Fever
  • Sweating
  • Chills
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain

Children under the age of 5 years might breathe too fast. Infants may vomit, lack energy, or have trouble drinking or eating. While older people may have a lower-than-normal body temperature. Furthermore, Viral Pneumonia may cause wheezing and high fever. While the Bacterial Pneumonia may result in a fever of more than 105?.

Diagnosis of Pneumonia

There’s a huge series of diagnosing process for Pneumonia. The diagnosing process might be dependent on your symptoms and medical history. Furthermore, a chest X-Ray can also be performed. Some other tests that doctor may prescribe include:

  • A Blood Test
  • Sputum Test
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Urine Test
  • CT Scan
  • Fluid Sample.
  • Bronchoscopy

Treatment of Pneumonia

For better treatment, better diagnosing a good hospital, and proper healthcare is required. Treatment of Pneumonia depends upon the type of pneumonia, the patient is having. Prescribed treatment includes antibiotics, antiviral, and antifungal drugs. In many cases, bacterial pneumonia can be treated using oral antibiotics. The patient feels pain while having the disease. To overcome this deadly pain, the doctor might also prescribe over-the-counter (OTC) medication. This can also relieve the fever if the patient has. These OTC medications include:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Aspirin
  • Acetaminophen

If you are getting through the home treatment, you must obey the following prescriptions:

  • Taking your drugs as prescribed
  • Getting a lot of rest drinking plenty of fluids
  • Not overdoing it by going back to school or work too soon
